Yes this can be done on a 22Lr also. But, not that important if you barrel is just laying stress free on top of the stock, however if the stock is exerting pressure on the barrel it should be free floated or stress releived.

But chief if you see most of the pcp and comparative air rifles available in the market today come with a free floating barrel .Here we find no stress on the barrel at all….There must be more to this than meets the eye.

Pcp's & air rifles........I am a layman. I don't even know the names or latest models of air rifles available today or how their mechanism is. My Discovery saw light more than two years ago. So I cannot help you here.

I do know, that in high powered rifles, even if your barrel is free floating, you must make sure the action is laying stress free on the stock with the front lug free floating on all sides except the rear.

So far,I haven't read this particular post of yours of glass bedding of an Rifle.
If it was available to me in 80's I wouldn't have not wasted much in my rifles. I taken my 375 H&H bolt action to change the stock to safari style and finish jewel in bolt. I have ordered to the company only these two of them but they ask me "Can we glass bed it " those times I didn't know about glass bedding. They showed me the sample glass bedded rifle and to shoot in their range. Then on the way back from Zagreb I pick it up. Shot several things in it,very accurate to shoot. Still the rifle is same condition only thing I used tighten up the screws.

Now I came cross this post,now wondering how much money would I have spent in my guns?
Now my son is asking 243 bolt action,he doesn't like my 375. Only thing I found in 375 is it shoots variety of grain bullet at the same point where we zero'd it,even a recent article JOHN TAYLOR have mention it DANGEROUS GAME HUNTING magazine,pg no 48
