PCP airguns operating at 10,000 psi / 690 BAR pressure

PCP airguns operating at 10,000 psi / 690 BAR pressure

PostAuthor: karizman » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:51 am

Friends so far we have been using pcp airguns with maximum 200 BAR / 2900 psi pressure. Is it possible to operate them at any higher pressures to get more velocity or shot counts?

I was wondering about using 10,000 psi / 690 BAR with factory spring & hammer. Is it possible?

PCP gurus please enlighten us about the possibilities & advantages of using our pcp guns with this kind of pressure.

We can try this with Discovery airguns because they have been tested to be safe even at 11,000 psi & many among us have them also. This will be a great breakthrough if someone among us can manage it Or has it been done already in India?

Are you sure just being hydro tested to 11k psi, it will withstand the punishments at 3k psi instead of regualr 2k psi. How do you deal with the mechanical stress induced filled at higher pressure than recommended? Who will be responsible if the thread holding the pressure bottle sheared off and flies like a rocket results in injury?

with all due respect to you Karizman....since you asked.....i think it will not be out of place to request you to......GIVE ME A BREAK......integrity of your PCP's tank apart...do you know what is the force lined up against your face each time you peer into the scope with lets say a marauder or discovery tank filled up at 10, 000psi ?......you are looking at a torpedo lined up against you and not any target :mrgreen:

for a 3000psi marauder, the simple calculation for force is...

area = 3.14/4 x 2.66cm x 2.66cm (ID of marauder tank) = 5.3066 cm squared

force = pressure x area = 211bar x 5.3066 = 1119.69kgs......YES....1119.69KGS
....that is the kind of force.....

with only three high tensile ? M5 X 0.8 X 6.3mm screws (shear force approx 1.2tonnes, consider thread lock only on tank 2mm body) holding the valve and with only the hammer and spring behind it supported by 2nos M4 X 0.7 X 11mm screws.......WHAT CHANCE YOU HAVE WITH 10,000PSI/704BAR is anybody's guess :mrgreen:

lets say you SURVIVED.....courtesy the factory spring/hammer set up....because they will not be capable of opening a valve pressed in at 10000psi......VALVE LOCK....did we hear of this before...

regards

Dear Jeetesh,

You are absolutely right & I always calculate these forces while designing valves.

The reason I made this post here was because I came to know that someone in India has has tried operating his benjamin discovery at this pressure. I hoped that this gentleman will come forward to share his secret with all of us & tell us how he managed such a feat & which springs he used to open the valve. This could be a first airgun in the world to be operated at this high pressure & just thought getting some knowledge from this great guru.

So please don't take my post in wrong meaning but I am waiting to know the person who managed such a great feat.

Dear Karizman,

This is very interesting.... since you know the person, please let us all know who His Greatness is !!
Lets not wait for the gentleman to voluntarily present himself...

Dear Olly,

Please don't feel offended but read my post once again. I have mentioned that I am looking out for a person who managed to such a great feat.

The name is what I am also waiting to know. I posted it here hoping that gentleman would come forward & guide us all. I would have been very happy to put his name right here in bold letters had I known it.

I always take great pride to be in Guru's companies. You can ask SS, Danish. I always call them up if I have difficulty understanding some points.

Anyway please let us all know if that person calls you up just as he has been calling many members on our forum but never posting his inventions or experiments. May be he is shy & wants to remain away from limelight. Isn't it our duty to give due credit to such people.

My suggestion before you fill to 10 000 psi is - first find a BOMB DISPOSAL chamber- then make sure your Life Insurance hasnt lapsed- and then find a compressor which will give you 10 000 psi!!!!!! - .............they dont tell you if they test the steel cylinder with the brass valves and the manometer on- it will be a good idea to find out first- think about it!!!

This is a baseless thread. Totally wrong and suicidal.... should never be attempted....
