puzzled by Diana's build

PostAuthor: sol » Fri Feb 05, 2010 11:21 pm

I see no other way for the piston rod (small mushroom end) to make connection with the ball-bearing inner sleeve but to pass through the spring-guide....I'm talking about the Diana Original 35 of course. And why do all the stripdown guides say put on the barrel before compressing the action together? And can I leave the trigger off until last, just attaching it and inserting the vertical spring at the end?

That's three questions. I'd really love to know the answers before beginning the rebuild. Is anyone intimate with the old 35?

I can understand his fascination, having spent a day or so looking at and cleaning the internals of one. What kind of minds came up with that? Sleeves, springs and ball-bearings galore! It's not like putting together the 97k. My son, who is just five, could reassemble the 97k. I on the other hand, despite my age and academic titles, find myself struggling with the Original35.
So thanks and I'll be there:)

sol,

Recommendations. Remove barrel from compression tube. Its easier to work that way.

Agreed the three ball trigger mechanism is a bit of a b&*^h. I want to do a video of it and posted it on my blog but these days its work, work and more work...

Yes the vertical spring is indeed the most painful part in the assembly.

I know what I have said is not of much help....

Thanks BB, yes, the Diana finally succumed and revealed her charms. It's actually quite simple, yet fraught with risks of lost springs/bearings/pins etc...The rifle is performing very well in the power dept, I'd guess (when will I buy a chrono?) around 9-10 ft/pd. I haven't scoped it to try out the accuracy; too anxious to get the 97k up and running. Seal should be here anyday!
Cheers
